Resource Center & Regional Field Reports
In accordance with our public interest mandate, PATRIMOINE, CULTURE ET TRADITIONS provides open, unrestricted access to educational materials, technical restoration manuals, and ethnographic field research. All documents are available free of charge for schools, scholars, and citizens.
Open-Access Educational Commons in the Service of Public Literacy
Historical research and technical conservation knowledge are public goods that belong to the entire community. PATRIMOINE, CULTURE ET TRADITIONS rejects restrictive academic paywalls and copyright gating. Our Resource Center curates and disseminates original educational guides, historical monographs, and field survey results produced by our volunteer researchers, making them freely consultable by teachers, pupils, university researchers, and local residents.
Whether you are preparing a classroom lesson on the rural transformation of the Rhône valley, researching your family's farming lineage in the Ain département, or looking for practical guidance on preserving antique hand tools, our Resource Center is designed to support your inquiry.
Free Downloadable Educational Materials & Discovery Kits
Our pedagogical committee has developed a suite of downloadable educational resources aligned with national curriculum guidelines for elementary and secondary levels:
Discovery Kit 1: "From Wheat Seed to Bread"
An illustrated pedagogical guide for primary teachers (Ages 7–11). Details the botanical cycle of cereal grains, historical wooden plowing techniques, threshing flails, watermill grinding, and communal wood-fired baking. Includes student activity sheets and vocabulary lists.
Discovery Kit 2: "The Village Forge & Rural Trades"
Explores the physics and metallurgy of pre-industrial village craftsmen: blacksmiths, wheelwrights, coopers, and joiners. Demonstrates how regional communities operated circular repair economies and sustainable resource management without industrial waste.
Discovery Kit 3: "Waterways, Mills & the Rhône Valley"
Examines the historic role of the Rhône river and its tributaries in irrigation, livestock watering, hydraulic flour milling, and river transport across Saint-Vulbas and neighboring communes prior to 20th-century hydroelectric construction.
Technical Guide: "Non-Destructive Conservation of Antique Iron & Wood"
A practical handbook authored by our workshop mechanics for heritage caretakers. Explains how to stabilize rusted ironwork with tannic acid formulations, apply beeswax-linseed finishes to antique timber, and avoid damaging historical tool patinas.
Original Field Articles & Ethno-Historical Monographs
Below are executive summaries of major field research monographs produced by our research team and made available for public consultation:
Report A: "Agrarian Mechanization and Social Metamorphosis in the Plaine de l'Ain (1945–1965)"
Author: Research Committee, Patrimoine, Culture et Traditions (Published 2025/2026)
Summary: This 48-page monograph investigates the rapid replacement of horse and ox draught teams with petroleum tractors across sixty family farms in Saint-Vulbas and surrounding villages. Drawing upon original notary ledgers and thirty oral history interviews, the report analyzes the economic pressures, cooperative buying syndicates (CUMA), and cultural adjustments experienced by post-war agrarian families. The full monograph is available upon request at our administrative office.
Report B: "The Rural Blacksmith: Heart of the Autonomous Village Ecosystem"
Author: Jean-Claude Perret & Technical Restoration Team
Summary: An ethno-technical monograph detailing the tooling, coal selection, metallurgical tempering recipes, and shoeing practices employed in the historical forge of Marcillieux between 1870 and 1955. The paper includes detailed mechanical schematics of bellows mechanisms and tool profiles forged specifically for alluvial gravel soils.
Report C: "Vernacular Patois & Agrarian Dialectics of Saint-Vulbas"
Author: Marie-Thérèse Buisson & Archival Working Group
Summary: A linguistic glossary documenting over four hundred Franco-Provençal vocabulary terms specifically associated with agricultural implements, weather phenomena, livestock commands, and culinary traditions once spoken daily in the hamlets of Saint-Vulbas.
Civic Engagement & Legal Non-Profit Governance Handbooks
In addition to historical research, our association shares its operational expertise in non-profit management. We provide template governance documents to help emerging community groups establish and manage their own non-profit initiatives under the French Law of July 1, 1901:
- Template Associative Statutes: A complete, tested model for non-commercial heritage associations operating under French law, featuring disinterested management clauses and inalienability protections.
- Internal Rules of Procedure (Règlement Intérieur): Practical workshop safety guidelines, volunteer onboarding protocols, and civil liability risk management procedures.
- Public Grant Application Protocol: Methodological guidance on assembling transparent, accountable grant justification dossiers for municipal and intercommunal funding bodies.
Archival Consultation Protocols & Reproductions for Researchers
To safeguard historical paper documents, ledgers, and photographic glass plates from environmental deterioration, our archival holdings are maintained in temperature-regulated, acid-free protective enclosures within our dedicated study annex. Researchers, academic historians, and university students wishing to consult rare historical holdings may schedule an in-person consultation session:
- Consultation Terms: Physical document consultations are conducted in our reading room under the supervision of an archival committee member. Cotton handling gloves are provided for fragile manuscripts and photographic negatives.
- Digital Scanning & Educational Licensing: High-resolution digital reproductions (300 to 600 DPI TIFF format) are supplied free of charge for non-commercial academic research, pedagogical school presentations, and public community displays. Commercial licensing or merchandising exploitation is strictly prohibited under our associative charter.
- Oral History Listening Stations: Audio recordings of our vernacular patois interviews and farming life oral testimonies may be auditioned in MP3 format using dedicated listening headphones within the research room.
